Pumpkin Spice for All: Fabulous Fall Treats for Fido

It's fall and that means it's time to enjoy the sweet smells and flavor of pumpkin everything! The best part? Your pup can join in on the fun!
Pumpkin is great for dogs. From stomach issues to urinary incontinence issues, there are many health benefits of treating your dog to this fall delicacy. Of course, as with everything else, you want to make sure you're not giving them too much pumpkin, but in moderation it's a great way to reward them while keeping their health on track.
Here are some of our favorite pumpkin dog treat recipes:
One of the easiest recipes on our list, all you need is pumpkin puree, an ice cube tray, water and a freezer! Get creative and use a dog-themed tray to make them even more pawsome. There are tons of options for frozen treats that incorporate some of your pup's other favorite snacks too so don't stop here!
'Nanner and Pumpkin Treats
Don't worry, bananas are dog friendly! In fact some veterinarians recommend them as a healthy alternative to fatty, salty treats and these are sure to be your pup's new post-walk favorites.
- 1 very ripe banana
- ½ can of pumpkin purée
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- 1 ½ whole wheat flour
- ½ teaspoon of baking powder
Preheat oven to 350º. In a large bowl mix banana, pumpkin, and honey. Add flour and baking powder into the mixture, which should be a dry dough. Roll out in a little flour, cut out shapes, place on baking sheet covered with parchment paper for 10-12 minutes.
Perfect Pumpkin Popovers
These treats can be made with coconut or potato flour for a healthy, gluten-free twist! Here's what you'll need:
- 1 cup flour
- 1 egg
- ½ cup pure 100% pumpkin
- 1 4-ounce jar pure carrot baby food
Preheat oven to 350º. Combine all ingredients together in a large bowl and mix until fully incorporated. If dough seems wet add a bit more flour and if it's crumbly add a touch of water. Scoop spoonfuls onto a parchment lined baking sheet. Feeling extra festive? Grab some green bean baby food while you're at the store and add to the dough as a pumpkin stem! Bake for 30-45 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
